Community College Men's Golf Championships
The 2001 Hyundai California Community
College Men’s Golf Championships were held today at the North Ridge
Country Club in Citrus Heights, CA.
Participants in the state championship
play 36 holes over the course of the one-day tournament.
The squad from Long Beach City College
walked off the North Ridge greens with the state team title this
afternoon. Led by Tye Alexander’s 71-72-143 performance, the Long
Beach team finished with a morning round of 371, and improved to
shoot 358 during the afternoon session. The remaining members of
the championship team are Alex Oh (74-70-144), Billy Sutt (78-68-146),
Brad Oh (75-73-148), Brandon Laurin (75-75-150) and Scott Osterhout
(76-78-154).
Finishing behind Long Beach in today’s
team competition were College of the Sequoias (374-368-742), Chabot
College (370-378-748), College of the Canyons (375-373-748), Montery
Peninsula College (372-378-750), American River College (386-370-756)
and College of the Desert (383-388-771).
The individual state champion was Palomar’s
Scott Oxandaboure, who shot 70-70-140, 4-under par, on the North
Ridge Course. Finishing in a tie for second place in individual
competition was Long Beach’s Alexander, College of the Sequoias’
Jeremy Moreno (71-72-143) and Chris Grey (69-74-143) of Ventura
College.
