First Inning Run Enough for Sac City to Eliminate
Antelope Valley
May 19 , 2007
Chino Hills, Calif. – Sacramento City just finished up a thrilling 1-0 win over
Sierra to survive and repeated the result with a 1-0 win over Antelope Valley to
extend their season and avenge an earlier season loss to the Marauders. The Panthers
lost to AVC 5-1 earlier this season but would not let the same fate happen again.
Sac City scored a run in the first and held on the rest of the way for the win.
All-American Cindy Oseguera produced the RBI while going 3 for 3 on the day to lead
the Panthers.
Fellow Panther All-American Nicole Wells led the game off with a bunt single.
Wells hit second on a ground out and then a single from freshman third baseman Kayla
Hayes. Oseguera closed it out with a double over the center fielder’s head scoring
Wells in what would be the game winning run. Both teams would shut each other down
from there stranding a combined eighteen runners.
Antelope Valley had some late game shots to take over. AVC freshman designated
player Evan Ruiz singled to lead off the sixth. Two walks later, Ruiz was on second
and the bases were loaded. Sac City pitcher Amanda Monday forced a fly out to strand
all three runners. The Marauders had one more chance in the bottom of the seventh.
Freshman catcher Rebecca Zapata reached on a walk. Ruiz singled again for runners
on first and third and two outs retired. Monday forced a fly out to end the Marauder
threat and the game 1-0. Monday improved to 22-4 with the win allowing just three
hits for the second game in a row while striking out seven batters. Ashley Arnett
suffered the loss for AVC finishing her season at 38-9 and finishing her career
at Antelope Valley.
Antelope Valley finishes their season 41-9-1. Sacramento City improves to 49-7
and will move on to play their third game in a row today in a rematch of their first
round loss to Cerritos. Cerritos defeated Sac City yesterday in the first round
in a 2-0 shutout off of two unearned runs. The two will meet up again at 5:00 pm
today.
